A permanent indoor multimedia installation at Červená Řečice Castle, and a prime example of storytelling projection mapping used for historical preservation.

Because nearly all of the original physical furniture and artwork had been lost or looted over the prior decades, the castle conservationists used indoor digital media mapping as the centrepiece attraction to breathe life back into the empty halls.

The 3D canvas model

Unlike traditional projection mapping cast directly onto a massive stone wall, this indoor installation projects imagery onto a meticulous, custom-fabricated physical 3D replica of the castle. The structural model features highly detailed buildings made via FDM 3D printing with a matte white finish, sitting on a miniature surrounding terrain carved out of extruded polystyrene.

The narrative experience

Serving as the climax of the main guided tour, the installation acts as an educational and sensory time machine. Overhead projectors cast vivid light overlays directly onto the 3D model, visually morphing its architecture to walk visitors through the centuries of construction evolution — transforming the model dynamically from a 13th-century fortress, into a gothic stronghold, and finally into its renowned Renaissance chateau appearance.
